My Three Sons is an American sitcom following the life of widower and aeronautical engineer Steven Douglas (Fred MacMurray) as he raises his three sons. The show is known to be one of television’s first single-parent sitcoms, revolving around an all-male family facing the hardships of life in suburbia. The series centers around the boys – Mike (Tim Considine), Robbie (Don Grady), and Chip (Stanley Livingston). Always there to help out is the kids’ crabby but lovable maternal grandfather and live-in housekeeper, Michael Francis ‘Bub’ O’Casey (William Frawley). After ‘Bub’ departs for Ireland, his younger brother, Uncle Charley (William Demarest), moves in to take over helping out with the boys and the house. My Three Sons is one of the longest-running and most popular sitcoms in history. It offered a wholesome dose of family entertainment in the 1960s that showed a different household than the typical nuclear family previously seen on television.
