- FETV to Highlight 50th Anniversary of EMS Week During Emergency
On-Air Promos Will Feature Emergency! Stars Randolph Mantooth and Kevin Tighe
South Bend, IN – FETV (Family Entertainment Television), home to beloved and timeless television series and movies carried across cable, satellite, and virtual platforms, announced today the network will help raise awareness for EMS Week from May 20-24 through on-air promos and interstitials. Featuring past interviews with Emergency! stars Randolph Mantooth and Kevin Tighe, the on-air promos will highlight the importance of emergency medical professionals and Emergency!’s influence on the growth of the paramedic field.
“We are proud to highlight the vital work EMS professionals are doing each and every day,” said Adam Sumrall, Executive Vice President of FETV and FMC. “The impact of Emergency! on the paramedic field shows the incredible power of television to make a positive difference in the world.”
In 1974, two years after the premiere of Emergency! on NBC, President Gerald Ford established EMS Week to celebrate EMS practitioners. Prior to Emergency!’s debut, only twelve paramedic services were operating in the United States. Within the first three years of the show’s run, 46 out of 50 states enacted laws allowing paramedics to practice in the field. Today, there are more than 21,000 licensed local EMS agencies in the United States.
