The Saint

The Saint is a British mystery/spy thriller television series that follows the exploits of debonair adventurer Simon Templar (Sir Roger Moore) a.k.a. The Saint. Templar is a Robin-Hood type who helps those whom conventional agencies are powerless or unwilling to protect, often using methods that skirt the law. Chief Inspector Claud Eustace Teal (Ivor Dean) is his nemesis who considers Templar a common criminal, but often grudgingly tolerates his actions for the greater good.

The Saint began as a classic mystery series based on the books written in the 1920s by Charteris. However, later storylines evolved into episodes with a secret agent/fantasy-style plot. It also made a well-publicized switch from black and white to color midway through the series. The start of early episodes are well-known for Templar breaking the fourth wall and speaking to the audience. With the switch to color, this was replaced by simple narration. Nearly every episode guest-starred one or more of the beautiful British actresses of the day.
