Green Acres

Green Acres is an American sitcom television series about Oliver Wendell Douglas (Eddie Albert) – a wealthy New York City attorney – fulfilling his dream to give up the fast-paced city life to be a farmer. His glamorous, diamond-clad Hungarian wife Lisa Douglas (Eva Gabor) is unwillingly dragged from their upscale Manhattan penthouse apartment to a ramshackle farm in Hooterville. Hooterville, a fictional farming community, is also home base to Green Acres’ sister show Petticoat Junction.

Some of the friends the Douglas’ make in their new homestead are the Ziffel’s, owners of a pig farm. Fred (Hank Patterson) and Doris (Barbara Pepper 65-68/Fran Ryan 69-71) live with their “son” Arnold Ziffel – a pig that everyone treats like a human boy. Other regulars include Eb Dawson (Tom Lester), the Douglas’ farmhand, and Mr. Haney (Pat Buttram), who sold Oliver the faulty farm and never gives up on trying to sell him more dilapidated junk. Petticoat Junction crossover characters include Sam Drucker (Frank Cady), who owns the general store and runs the Hooterville post office, Charley Pratt (Smiley Burnette), and Floyd Smoot (Rufe Davis), the engineer and conductor of the train the Hooterville Cannonball.
